Some shopping cart keys and an etched Sanrendmu 710

The dark ones are made of carbon fiber, the ones in the middle are filled with glowing epoxy

The right one is made of copper, etched with ferric chloride

Night shots will follow

Some inspiration for D Kim ;)

  1. Wow, very nice. Thanks for posting these! The etching looks quite deep. Do you use tape as a mask and then cut out your design? The lines are very clean. The 710 looks great...was it originally black that you sanded or maybe you swapped the blade and sanded the flats? I should grab a few 710s at the next flash sale, it is a good platform to work with.

  2. Yes, the blade was black as you say, but I have no clue if the scale was from a silver or a black 710.
I've borrowed the knife with my first carbon fiber scale attached but as far as I understand it's lost...

  3. The first one I made as you say, I've put brown package tape (plastic)on the metal and cut it right there. It worked but it's better to cut it on a soft surface like a cutting mat and place it afterwards. Then coat it with acrylic spray paint, let it dry, remove the tape, into the etchant it goes.

    1. I see, cut out the parts that don't get etched to make a stencil for the acrylic paint. I have zero art training so this is all new to me!
It's a shame the CF 710 is lost! That CF is gorgeous. I would love to have one of those. I can't remember if you did a CF Land 9103/4? That would be an amazing knife...people would line up to buy a CF scale from you!!

    2. It was new to me, too, so I've experimented a bit.

I've made scales for a 910+ already, I'll post some pics, too. I made it without the 2nd liner and reduced the weight to 96g (orig. 130g)
It's also thinner and better to carry.
A workmate got a 9104 so I put the scale on that one and also sanded it down further. Maybe soon I can get pictures of that.
